Summer Progressing Ballet Technique

Recommended for dancers ready to refine their technique

20 US dollars
Depot Street

Service Description

PBT is a specialized course which delves deep into the crucial elements that can progress technique and often help to rehabilitate dancers. Through carefully structured progressions, we will examine and refine the fundamental principles that support advancement in classical technique, targeting turnout, alignment, core stability, and strength. Our work will include instruction geared toward gaining an understanding of skeletal alignment, where each student discovers their individual structure and learns to harness it efficiently. We take time to develop proper turnout from the hip joints, understanding that forced rotation leads to instability and potential injury. The relationship between the pelvis, spine, and standing leg becomes clear through guided exploration and targeted exercises. Core stability – often misunderstood as mere abdominal strength – is approached as an integrated system connecting the upper and lower body. Students learn to engage their deep stabilizing muscles while maintaining freedom of breath and natural movement of the ribcage, essential for both controlled adagio, allegro, and proper ballet posture throughout their training. Balance is cultivated not through rigid holding, but through an awakened awareness of weight transfer and the subtle adjustments that maintain equilibrium. We build proprioception progressively, challenging the body's natural balance systems while developing the strength to sustain elevated leg positions, properly execute and control landings in jumps and turns. This course serves intermediate and advanced training in dance, providing dancers with the physical intelligence, balance, and strength needed for more demanding repertoire. Students emerge with a deeper understanding of their instrument and the tools to train safely at higher levels. Recommended for dancers ready to refine their technique and those seeking to address challenges in their current practice.
